Hygge is not just a word, it is a concept and a real way of life, which also goes through home decor.
Our vintage Scandinavian-designed furniture is the perfect piece of furniture for decorating in the hygge style, let’s see together what this particular term of Danish origin means and all the tips for hygge decor with a vintage flavor.
What Hygge means
Hygge is pronounced hu-gah and has no clear translation. It is about the idea of surrounding ourselves with everything that makes our lives happier, fuller and more fulfilling (people, objects, food, furniture, etc.). It is a feeling of well-being, warmth, intimacy and welcome, an inner and outer peace and serenity that allows us to live happily and in harmony with ourselves and others.
This concept originated in Denmark to describe how people experience winter inside their homes, when candles, cozy blankets, and hot chocolate are the stars of gatherings at home with family or friends. It can also be extended to lifestyle during all seasons of the year.
In summer, the concept of Hygge is based, for example, on days out with friends, barbecues, the taste of fresh fruit, and hiking surrounded by nature.
In the spring, Hygge includes the scent of flowers, their vibrant colors, the first warm sunny days and garden parties, while in the fall it consists of preparing for winter by making apple and cinnamon cakes and preparing warm sweaters for winter.
How to decorate home in hygge style with vintage Scandinavian furniture
The concept of Hygge is not limited to lifestyle, but also broadens to include the decor, atmosphere and style to be given to one’s home.
Furnishing a home in the Hygge style means choosing cozy furniture that creates a sense of welcome and well-being and makes rooms bright, spacious and warm, perfect for hosting friends and enjoying light moments dedicated to oneself.
Which furniture to choose? The vintage Scandinavian one, of course!
Furniture with something to tell
Choose vintage Nordic-style furniture to furnish your home in hygge style allows you to enrich your decor with their timeless beauty.
Each piece of vintage furniture with its signs of time and details impossible to replicate has a story to tell, to which we can add pieces of our own creating something unique.
Choosing to buy vintage Nordic-style furniture also means owning a piece of history and culture, a rare or even unique piece of furniture that is hard to find on the market. In perfect hygge style.
Clear and brightly colored furnishings
The Hygge style involves large spaces and bright, vital atmospheres, even when it comes to small spaces.
The advice, therefore, is to choose light-colored furnishings that can be enriched with personalized details such as candles, which are particularly popular in Northern Europe, or even with natural elements such as plants and flowers, whose bright colors bring cheer and serenity.
An example? Our light wood flower stand, perfect to put in the living room or kitchen!
The hygge home should never lack a touch of color as well, especially in furnishings such as the chairs and vintage lamps, with which to indulge to liven up the environment!
The right light
It is a fundamental element of hygge. Rooms should be well lit by multiple light sources that are not too bright, but allow the space to be large and bright.
Here is a decorating idea: the brass floor lamp decorated with a light shade made of paper, which diffuses a warm light and is perfect for creating a Hygge atmosphere with a Nordic flavor.

Round furniture
Hygge is harmony, sweetness and softness, the same harmony that Scandinavian vintage furniture gives with its clean, minimal lines.
Rounded furnishings with distinctive and eccentric shapes evoke a lively and joyful atmosphere and give character to the room, as in the case of the iconic Pernilla armchair with footrest, a small design masterpiece designed by Bruno Mathsson for Karl Mathsson AB in the 1940s.
The quintessential piece of furniture that for hygge style must be round is the dining table. A round table is cozy and creates a convivial environment where everyone is comfortable.
How to choose it. Vintage and extendable to give the right space for all the guests!
