Coffee table model “Ovalen” in teak, designed by Carl Malmsten and accompanied by the manufacturer’s original label. The slender and perfectly proportioned oval top is supported by four slender legs that graft naturally under the band, creating a harmonious and continuous whole. The design is almost organic: the curved lines of the top dialogue with the soft contours of the crossbars, while the slightly arched legs lend lightness and movement. Carl Malmsten was a central figure in twentieth-century Swedish design, known for his independent stance from strict functionalism. A proponent of an educated tradition rooted in Nordic craftsmanship, he promoted humane, domestic and timeless design based on proportion, quality of materials and craftsmanship of execution. “Ovalen” fully embodies this vision, combining understated elegance and natural warmth.
