Known in Scandinavia as the “telefonbänk” and in the Anglo-Saxon world as the “gossip chair,” this entry bench reflects a type of furniture popular in Nordic homes in the 1950s and 1960s. The oak frame integrates a small side top with drawer and an upholstered seat covered in green velvet, originally designed to accommodate the household landline telephone, address books and everyday objects. The compact lines and functional construction recall the language of Mid-Century Scandinavian Modern, which was oriented toward practical, lightweight furniture suitable for everyday life.
