The Finnish Artist and Designer
Oiva Toikka, born in 1931 in Viipuri, in Finland (now part of Russia), grew from his youth a deep passion for theart andcrafts. Since childhood, he has been attracted to theglass art and demonstrated an early interest in manipulation of glass. This predisposition prompted him to explore the machining glass from a young age, embarking on a path that would shape his career.
His training art began at theAcademy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, where he devoted himself to the study of the artistic disciplines. During this period of training, Toikka cultivated a wide range of interests, passionately exploring different areas of art and design, but it was glass, particularly the technique of blown glass, that captured his attention in a special way; his dedication to it was not limited to the creation of art objects, but opened up new perspectives for the entire field of design.
